On Sunday, 16th August 2020, the riders of #teamStS will take part in this year's Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100. That's a 100 mile cycle sportive that takes place on closed roads, from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to The Mall in London, with a minor detour around Surrey.
If you don't think that's enough of a challenge, it has to be completed in under 81/2 hours, before the roads reopen to traffic.
Apart from being a great personal achievement, it's a fantastic day out, and we're going to be raising money for a good cause.
Many of last year's team members will be back to do it again. Some of who have taken part may times before.
By the end of the six-months, you will have: -
We appreciate that it's a daunting task, and for some it might seem impossible, but with the team around you, we can almost guarantee that you will reach the right level of fitness, to achieve this goal.
We'll be leading training rides every Saturday and Sunday from the end of March, right through until the day before the event. Your teammates will be keen to get out and ride at other times too. We can also offer training and nutrition advice, to help you when you're off the bike.
If you don't yet have a bike, before you rush and a buy one, come and talk to us. We'll help you choose the most suitable bike for your need, and then help you find one, that fits your budget.
As part of #teamStS, there's a few things you'll be expected to do, the most important of which, by far, is support your teammates.
We'll be organising fundraising events throughtout the year, which you'll be encouraged to attend, and bring along friends and family.
As a novice, you'll need to join at least one training ride per week, if you want to build up to a level where you can complete the event in comfort.
If you're an experienced rider, we will expect you to act as a mentor to the novices, and to assist in leading the training rides, so that we can offer the maximum support for the novices.
Unlike a normal charity place, there is no individual target. We have a team target of £10,000, so anything you raise individually, will to help us achieve that. One thing that is not allowed, is for participants to raise funds for another charity, for this event.
